Latinx Heritage Month Celebrated with Oct. 5 Performance
Student Support Services will present “Latinx Heritage Month: An Evening of Spoken Word and Storytelling Focused on Afrolatinidad,” Thursday, Oct. 5, at 7 p.m. in the Cardinal Lounge.
The event will feature writer and journalist Amanda Alcantara, who will deliver a brief keynote address regarding Afrolatinidad, followed by a spoken word performance inspired by her own experiences as an Afro-Latina.
An “open mic” opportunity for students to share their own stories, spoken word, poetry and other forms of writing will follow Alcantara’s performance.
Alcantara is a Latinx — a gender neutral term for Latino or Latina — changemaker and the cofounder of the online magazine "La Galeria,” which celebrates the cultural production of Dominicans in the Diaspora, the movement of people from their original homelands into new regions.
This event is sponsored by the President's Office, Plattsburgh Alumni Association and College Auxiliary Services.
