Lake Champlain Sea Kayak Institute Set for July 25-31
PLATTSBURGH, NY __ The Adirondack Experience at the State University of New York College
at Plattsburgh (http://www.plattsburgh.edu/academics/adx
) announces the schedule of events for the sixth annual Lake Champlain Sea Kayak Institute,
July 25-31. The week of events includes specialized half-day clinics, a four day
"soup-to-nuts" course (available for two college credits) a Demo Day, free evening
events and a citizen's race around Valcour Island.
All events take place at The Valcour Kayak Center at Plattsburgh State's Valcour Educational
Conference Center on Lake Champlain, south of Plattsburgh.
"This program is designed with all levels of paddlers in mind," said Dr. Laurence
Soroka, program coordinator and director of The Adirondack Experience.
For anyone curious about kayaking, Soroka said the intro level four-hour clinic is ideal. Experienced paddlers can focus on rescues, rolling, or stroke video analysis, all offered as half-day opportunities. The four-day clinic has it all -- lots of skill development, daily tours on Lake Champlain, food, fun, and lots and lots of paddling in a short period of time.
"By the end of four days, participants will have paddled more hours than some recreational paddlers might in a summer, all the while learning strokes, rescues and even getting an introduction to rolling," said Soroka.
Back by popular demand this year, are free evening clinics, "Yoga for Paddlers" and "An Introduction to Piloting and the annual DEMO DAY, offering an afternoon of opportunities to speak to retailers and national sales reps and to try out a wide variety of kayaks.
The week culminates with a seven-mile citizen's race, for paddlers of ALL abilities.
