Jazz Winter Concert Set for Dec. 1
The SUNY Plattsburgh Department of Music presents the 2015 Winter Jazz Concert Tuesday, Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the E. Glenn Giltz Auditorium, Hawkins Hall.
The 17-piece big band Plattsburgh State Jazz Ensemble, directed by Herm Matlock, adjunct lecturer in music, will perform works of Tom Kubis, Clark Terry, Charles Mingus and “Sing, Sing, Sing” from the Benny Goodman songbook, featuring student drummer Pat Mancino. Other student soloists include saxophonists Andrew Miller, Brandon Bessette and Huseyin Pekdimir, trumpeter Bill Long and guitarist Nick Agoney.
The Mambo Combo, an eight-piece small jazz ensemble also directed by Matlock, opens the program with works by Herbie Hancock, Jeff Lorber, Horace Silver, Stanley Turrentine and Professor Rick Davies. The ensemble performance will feature solos from each member of the combo.
