Inauguration of College's 10th President Fast Approaching

PLATTSBURGH, NY __ The Inauguration for State University of New York College at Plattsburgh President John Ettling is fast approaching, and plans for the investiture ceremony on Saturday, April 16 are well on their way.

There are many events lined up for the week leading up to the ceremony. From Monday, April 11 through Saturday, April 16, the College will celebrate Showcase Week. The week highlights student achievements across campus.

"The celebration of student academic achievement is a time when the College shows off its students. There will be many events going on throughout the week including poster displays, student presentations, a cafeteria of student creation and achievement," said Dr. Douglas Skopp, distinguished teaching professor of history and chair of the Showcase Committee. "Plattsburgh has always prided itself on the close interaction between faculty and students. This event allows that interaction to be displayed in many different settings."

The Symphonic Band will give a concert on Tuesday, April 12 at 8 p.m. in the E. Glenn Giltz Auditorium. The concert is free and open to the public.

The College Choral will also present a concert on Friday, April 15 at 8 p.m. in the E. Glenn Giltz Auditorium. This concert is also free and open to the public.

Inauguration Day on Saturday, April 16, begins with the College's Spring Open House for prospective students and their families. Participants will be given campus tours and have the opportunity to visit with faculty and representatives from financial aid, the registrar's office and the bursar's office.

At 3 p.m., the Inauguration Ceremony for Ettling will begin in the Memorial Hall Gymnasium. Skopp will be the master of ceremonies and several dignitaries are scheduled to speak including New York State Senator Elizabeth Little, Assemblyman Chris Ortloff, Assemblywoman Teresa Sayward and Plattsburgh Mayor Dan Stewart.

SUNY Chancellor Robert King will present Ettling with the Presidential Medallion, and Ettling will then give his inaugural address.

Additional speakers will include Donald Garrant '57 G'59, chair of the College Council; Michael Cashman, president of the Student Association; and Douglas Sloan '91, president of the Alumni Association.

A reception will be held in the Warren Ballrooms, Angell College Center, immediately following the ceremony where guests will have the opportunity to congratulate Plattsburgh State's 10th president.

The Senior Art Exhibition will officially open with a reception on Saturday, April 16 at 5:30 p.m. in the Lobby of the Myers Fine Arts Building.
