SUNY Plattsburgh President Alexander Enyedi announced Friday the appointment of Heather Haskins as his chief of staff.

Haskins, who joined the university in 2021 as its executive director of communications and marketing in the Office of the President, will work to coordinate institutional priorities, advance strategic initiatives, and ensure that office “remains accessible and responsive,” Enyedi said.

“Heather will help translate institutional goals into action, foster communication and accountability across divisions, and maintain strong, effective relationships at every level of the university.”

Enyedi said that Haskins will also serve as the university’s liaison to SUNY’s offices of communication, general council and government relations, “representing SUNY Plattsburgh at the system level and ensuring alignment of institutional priorities and messaging,” he said.

Continue Unified Leadership

“Additionally, Heather will continue to provide unified leadership for the university’s communications and marketing strategy, enhancing our storytelling, brand identity, and outreach across every audience.”

A SUNY Plattsburgh alumna, Class of 1998, Haskins spent 20 years at the New York State Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence prior to returning to her alma mater, leading statewide communications and public education initiatives, advising on legislative and interagency efforts, managing state and federal grants, overseeing the state Domestic Violence Data Dashboard, and coordinating the state Domestic Violence Advisory Council.

At SUNY Plattsburgh, she has refocused the university’s communications and marketing operation into a strategic, data-informed, and highly collaborative division. In her tenure at the university, Haskins has overseen enhancements to the university’s website, its social media presence, graphic design, print and brand strategy, media and press relations, crisis communications, photography and videography, internal communications, and presidential messaging.

Director of Marketing Position

“In short, Heather’s work has elevated institutional visibility, unified campus communications, and built a stronger, more consistent SUNY Plattsburgh brand,” Enyedi said. “Her leadership has strengthened our ability to attract and retain students through closer integration with admissions, enrollment services, and academic affairs, aligning recruitment across web, digital, and print platforms.”

To further strengthen student recruitment and enrollment marketing, Haskins will oversee the addition of a director of marketing position focused on innovative student recruitment strategies and close coordination with enrollment and academic affairs.

“Heather’s combined expertise in cross-agency leadership, policy collaboration, and strategic communication position her well to serve as chief of staff at SUNY Plattsburgh as she continues to advance the university’s mission and success,” Enyedi said.
