Gospel Choir Presents Vocal Clinic and A Cappella Concert
PLATTSBURGH, NY __In honor of black history month, the Plattsburgh State Gospel Choir presents its fifth annual A Cappella Concert with special guests and a vocal clinic.
All students and community members are welcome to participate in the vocal clinic on Friday, Feb. 23, from 5 to 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 24 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Myers Fine Arts Building, room 300, and 1:45 to 3:40 p.m. in Yokum Hall, room 200. The clinic, which costs $10, will feature special guest Dr. Raymond Wise from the Center for the Gospel Arts in Columbus, Ohio. The workshop will include such topics as vocal technique, musical performance, Negro spirituals and gospel music history.
Clinic participants will be encouraged to join the Plattsburgh State Gospel Choir directed by Dr. Dexter Criss, special guest Dr. Francois S. Clemmons and The Stand Vocal Band directed by Benjamin Bright for the fifth annual A Cappella Concert on Saturday, Feb. 24, at 7 p.m. in the Plattsburgh High School Auditorium.
Clemmons is a Grammy Award winning actor seen in "Porgy and Bess" and "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood." He is also a poet and has been published in numerous magazines, including Black World, and in several notable anthologies, including "A Galaxy of Black Writing."
Tickets for the concert are $1 with the proceeds to benefit the North Country Underground
Railroad Association or a canned food item to benefit the Clinton County Food Shelf.
