Gospel Choir Presents Clinic and Concert
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Feb. 11, 2008) - In honor of Black History Month, the Plattsburgh State Gospel Choir presents its 6th Annual A Cappella Concert on Sat., Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. in the E. Glenn Giltz Auditorium of Hawkins Hall on the SUNY Plattsburgh campus. The event will feature special guest community members and students who will have participated in a special vocal clinic sponsored by the choir.
All students and community members are welcome to participate in that clinic. It will be held in Room 300 of the Myers Fine Arts Building on the SUNY Plattsburgh campus at the following times:
Thursday, Feb 21, from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m.
Friday, Feb. 22, from 5 to 7:30 p.m.
Saturday, Feb. 23 from 9:30 a.m. to noon and 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
The clinic, which costs $10, is a series that will feature special guest Dr. Anthony Leach, associate professor of music education at Pennsylvania State University and member of the National Association for Music Education, American Choral Directors Association, American Guild of Organists, and the Gospel Music Workshop of America. The clinic will cover such topics as vocal technique, musical performance, Negro spirituals, and gospel choruses in the academic setting.
Following the clinic, participants will be invited to join with the Gospel Choir directed by Dr. Dexter Criss, and the Male Chorus of New Alpha Missionary Baptist Church of Burlington, Vt., for the A Cappella Concert on Saturday.
Tickets for the concert are $1 with the proceeds to benefit the North Country Underground Railroad Association or a canned food item to benefit the Clinton County Food Shelf. For more information, call 518-564-5078.
