Glass Chosen to SAAC at NCAA Level
INDIANAPOLIS (April 22, 2010) -- Tucker Glass, a redshirt-junior defenseman on the men’s lacrosse team at Plattsburgh State, was recently appointed as a member of the 24-person NCAA Division III Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. He was nominated on behalf of the State University of New York Athletic Conference Commissioner Dr. Pat Damore.
"This honor gives me a sense of pride. I look forward to having the opportunity to
help out further enhancing the student-athlete experience as well as representing
our team, college and New York on a national level," Glass said. "I like for people
to have a voice and this provides a great platform for that. I bring an analytical
perspective to this group and if I see something to adapt for the betterment of student-athletes,
I'll be active in supporting that initiative or employing a leadership role."
An education major from Oswego High School and Plattsburgh’s SAAC president, Glass
will serve on the committee beginning May 1 and his term will continue through May
1, 2013.
"This is a terrific and well-deserved honor that Tucker will capably handle. He is
an outstanding ambassador of Cardinal Athletics and fully understands student-athletes’
concerns on campus," P.J. Kavanagh, Plattsburgh men’s lacrosse coach and on-campus
SAAC advisor, said.
Tucker will represent the SUNYAC, Liberty League and Empire 8 on the NCAA SAAC whose
members serve as student-athlete liaisons between the happenings on campus, conference
and national levels. Division III is the largest in NCAA with 300,000 student-athletes
from over 400 institutions across the country.
The mission of the NCAA Division III SAAC is to enhance the total student-athlete
experience by promoting opportunity for all student-athletes; protecting student-athlete
welfare; and fostering a positive student-athlete image, while maintaining the tenants
of the Division III philosophy.
