Former SUNY Plattsburgh players join professional ranks

ADDISON, TEXAS (June 2009) - Former SUNY Plattsburgh standouts Matt Dahlin and Zack Welch (Merrill, N.Y./Northern Adirondack High School) are spending their summer playing professionally in the Continental Baseball League.

Dahlin, who was released in May by the Edmonton Capitals after being traded from the Midwest Sliders during the off-season, signed this week with the Coastal Kingfish based in Houston. The Cohoes, N.Y., product out of Stillwater HS is expected to be used as a pitcher and utility player.

In his first season with the Texarkana Gunslingers, Welch is batting .333 in 10 games played with four runs batted in. The catcher is tied for fifth on the team with 10 runs scored and is tied for third with five stolen bases.

The Gunslingers are 10-6 through Wednesday's game, one game behind first-place Alexandria (La.) Aces in the CBL standings.
