Feature Film 'Pride' to be Shown in Support of Plattsburgh Pride March
There will be a public showing of the film, “Pride,” Friday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. in Yokum 200.
The film, about gay activists in the U.K. working to help miners during their lengthy strike in the summer of 1984, is sponsored by the Plattsburgh chapter, United University Professions, in support of the Adirondack North Country Gender Alliance’s Pride events and march being held Saturday, Sept. 30.
“When I watched it, it gave me a meaningful appreciation of how important marches are, especially for a community that historically has to hide its identity,” said Dr. Wendy Gordon, professor and chair of the history department. “It also talks about the importance of unions and the importance of having labor organizations support the LGBTQ community.”
Rated R, the showing is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Gordon at 518-564-5212 or email [email protected].
