PLATTSBURGH, NY __ Mark Kriegel, a former sports columnist for the New York Daily News , has moved onto writing books, which have won acclaim from reviewers and readers alike. He will read and discuss his latest book, Pistol: The Life of Peter Maravich , at the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh on Tuesday, March 27, at 7 p.m. in the Hyman and Frances Krinovitz Recital Hall in Hawkins Hall.

His reading will be following by a question and answer session with the audience and a book signing. The presentation, which is sponsored by the Center for Communication and Journalism at SUNY Plattsburgh, is free and open to the public.

While on campus, Kriegel will also present guest lectures to students in a sports reporting course taught by Luke Cyphers, an adjunct faculty member and senior editor/writer for ESPN The Magazine .

Pistol , listed as the top-selling sports book on ESPN The Magazine's Top 10 Sports Selling Books, is the story of Peter Maravich, a Basketball Hall of Fame icon who was a spectacular showman known for his dazzling ballhandling, incredible shooting abilities and creative passing. He starred in college at Louisiana State University and for three National Basketball Association teams in the 1970s before his death in 1988.

People magazine called Kriegel a renowned biographer and "a master who renders his subject with style that is, by turns, heartbreaking, lyrical and electric."

Prior to writing Pistol , Kriegel penned the 2004 book, Namath: A Biography , which was also a national best seller. Kriegel's current book tour for Pistol will take him to New York City, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Pittsburgh, Chicago, Los Angeles, New Orleans and Atlanta.
