Distinguished Canadian Address to be held at SUNY Plattsburgh Tuesday, March 24, 2015

John F. Prato, consul general of Canada in New York, will deliver the Distinguished Canadian Address on Tuesday, March 24, at the Valcour Educational Conference Center, Route 9, Valcour.

The Distinguished Canadian Address, sponsored by The Development Corporation in partnership SUNY Plattsburgh’s Center for the Study of Canada, recognizes select individuals who have made a profoundly positive contribution to Canadian public life. This initiative provides a forum that showcases government officials, professors, and business leaders who offer public lectures on a wide range of Canadian and Canada-U.S. issues.

Prato’s address, “Canada and the United States: Partners in Energy, Security and Trade,”  begins at 5:30 p.m.

“We look forward to engaging Mr. Prato on issues of importance to our Center, the City of Plattsburgh, and the entire North Country community,” said Dr. Christopher Kirkey, director of the Center for the Study of Canada and the Institute on Quebec Studies at SUNY Plattsburgh.

Prato assumed his responsibilities as consul general of Canada in New York in March 2011.  Prior to this engagement, Prato worked as a managing director in the Equity Capital Markets Group at TD Securities, the investment banking division of The TD Bank Financial Group. From 1996 to 1998, he worked in merchant banking with TD Capital Group Ltd.

Prato has served on the board of trustees of the Royal Ontario Museum, and on the executive committee of that board.  He currently sits on the boards of the St. Michael’s Hospital Foundation, the Canadian Foundation for AIDS Research, and CommunityLend Inc.
