Discover Magazine, New York Times Author to Speak
Renowned science author Carl Zimmer will present “Parasite Rex” at 12:15 p.m. Friday, April 15, in Room 206 of Yokum Hall on the SUNY Plattsburgh campus, followed by a book signing.
The talk will be based on his book “Parasite Rex: Inside the Bizarre World of Nature’s Most Dangerous Creatures.”
Zimmer’s work often appears in the New York Times and magazines such as Discover, where he is a contributing editor and columnist. He is the author of seven books, the most recent of which is “The Tangled Bank: An Introduction to Evolution.”
“The way he relays science to the public is nothing short of remarkable,” said SUNY Plattsburgh student Tobi Oni, one of the organizers of the event. Oni added that Zimmer’s books are often assigned reading in classes.
In addition to the 12:15 talk, Zimmer will offer a science writing workshop from 9
to 9:50 a.m. in Room 202 of Yokum Hall. Both events are free and open to the public.
