Department of Music Presents Symphonic Band Concert
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (NOV. 11, 2008) - The SUNY Plattsburgh music department will present a Symphonic Band Concert on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the E. Glenn Giltz Auditorium, Hawkins Hall, on the SUNY Plattsburgh campus. The concert is free and open to the public.
Directed by Associate Professor Daniel Gordon, the 40-member Symphonic Band will perform pieces that range from the Classical to the present, including an elegy composed by Ticheli in memory of all those who lost their lives at Columbine High School in 1999 and in honor of the survivors.
Also on the program is "Concerto for Trombone and Band" by Rimsky-Korsakov, featuring
trombone soloist Olivia Benware. A native of Lake Placid, Benware is pursuing a Bachelor
of Arts in music at SUNY Plattsburgh and is scheduled to graduate in December 2009.
Benware performs regularly with the SUNY Plattsburgh Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensemble
and Brass Ensemble. She currently studies trombone and piano with Dr. Rick Davies,
and piano and jazz studies with Jeremiah McLane. In addition to her academic commitments,
Benware is the performing arts assistant for the music and theater departments.
