De Armas to be Inducted Into Cardinal Sports Hall of Fame
PLATTSBURGH, NY __ Dr. Peter De Armas, a 1985 graduate of the State University of
New York College at Plattsburgh, will be inducted into the Cardinal Sports Hall of
Fame on Friday, July 9 at 4 p.m. in the lobby of the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena
in the Field House.
De Armas, who played hockey in a Cardinal uniform at Plattsburgh State from 1981 to 1985, scored 95 goals in his Cardinal career and was a powerhouse on the ice.
As a member of the men's ice hockey team, De Armas had a career total 209 points, with 29 power play goals and 14 game-winning goals. In the 1984-85 season, he was an All-American First Team and a SUNYAC First Team selection. He was also named Plattsburgh State Athlete of the Year.
Following graduation, De Armas was invited to the Los Angeles Kings Training Camp for the 1985-86 season as a free agent. He signed a contract with the Kings affiliate, the Toledo Goaldiggers of the International Hockey League (IHL). The next season, De Armas signed with the Virginia Lancers of the Atlantic Coast Hockey League (ACHL). He was named captain of the Lancers for the 1986-87 season and was voted "Player of the Year" by the Lancers and selected League MVP by the ACHL. He was also awarded the ACHL scoring title and was selected ACHL First Team All-Star.
After his hockey career, De Armas received a bachelor's degree and his doctorate from the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic. In 1993, he was issued a state license from the California State Board of Chiropractic Examiners and did his post-graduate study at the International College of Applied Kinesiology. From 1994 to 2003, he worked for the White Chiropractic Group in Escondido, Calif., before opening his own practice in 2003.
"It's quite an honor to be inducted into the Hall of Fame," said De Armas. "Only a few number of athletes receive this special recognition, and I am proud to be associated with that group of people."
De Armas and his wife, Tammy, who also graduated from Plattsburgh State in 1985, have three children: Analisa (11), Torrey (10) and Julianne (7). The family resides in Marina del Rey, Calif.
"I'm looking forward to coming back to Plattsburgh," De Armas said. "It is a wonderful opportunity to see old friends and faculty. It will also be a chance for my children to see Plattsburgh State, and for me, to experience how much has changed since I was last here."
