Cron Lecture Series Adds Fall Event Featuring Dr. Louis DeCaro, Jr.


PLATTSBURGH, NY __ The annual spring semester Cron Lecture Series on topics in religious studies has added an additional fall lecture this year at the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh.

Dr. Louis DeCaro, Jr., will visit the campus on Nov. 15 and 16. He will present a public lecture on the life of John Brown on Monday, Nov. 15 at 8 p.m. in the Cardinal Lounge, Angell College Center.

On Tuesday, Nov. 16, DeCaro will lead a text study session on an unfinished John Brown speech at 12:30 p.m. at the John XXIII Newman Center, 90 Broad Street, Plattsburgh. Both events are free and open to the public.

A distinguished author, pastor and teacher, DeCaro holds graduate degrees from New York University and Westminster Theological Seminary and received his doctorate from New York University in 1994.

He is the author of Fire from the Midst of You: A Religous Life of John Brown . Copies of the book will be available at the College Store and at the lecture and text study session. DeCaro has also written two other books -- On the Side of My People: A Religious Life of Malcolm X and Malcolm and The Cross: The Nation of Islam, Malcolm X and Christianity .

DeCaro is the co-founder of Project Step Up, a literacy program offered by the Urban Youth Alliance, and has served as a pastor with Soul Release Prison Ministries and the Vroom Street Evangelical Free Church in Jersey City, N.J. He has also been an adjunct professor at City College and New York Divinity School.
