Commemorative Ceremony to Honor Kent State/Jackson State Students May 4
PLATTSBURGH, NY __ The Student Association at the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh will sponsor the annual Kent State and Jackson State Commemorative Ceremony on Thursday, May 4 at 12:15 p.m. at the memorial plaque in front of the Kehoe Administration Building.
The memorial was established to remind everyone of the tragic events that took place 36 years ago at Kent State University (Ohio) where four students were killed May 4, 1970, and at Jackson State University (Miss.) where two students were killed 10 days later. Plattsburgh State has continued to memorialize this event each year.
The event will feature a performance by the Plattsburgh State Gospel Choir, faculty reflection by Dr. Donald Haight, professor of counselor education and student perspective by Student Association President Michael Cashman. William Laundry, interim vice president for student affairs, and Rev. Roger McGuiness will also speak.
Everyone is welcome to attend the brief service. For more information, please call the Student Association office at 518-564-3200.
