Collica Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team


TROY, N.Y. (Nov. 16, 2009) -- Plattsburgh State women's soccer player Kaitlin Collica has been selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District College Division First Team for the second straight year, according to balloting by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Quebec. As the only representative from the State University of New York Athletic Conference, Collica advances to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration.

A senior defender from Baldwin High School, Collica earned second-team All-SUNYAC honors while scoring two goals and starting in all 19 of the Cardinals' games. She helped the team record six shutouts, go 3-1-1 against Top 25 teams as part of a 10-6-3 overall record, peak at No. 11 in the national rankings and qualify for its first NCAA Division III Championship tournament appearance since 1995. She has 3.83 cumulative grade-point average as a nursing major, and volunteers to help raise money for several charities.
