College Presents 16th-Annual Service Auction
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Feb. 9, 2010) - SUNY Plattsburgh will host its 16th-annual Service Auction Tuesday, March 2, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Alumni Conference Room of the Angell College Center.
The auction will feature gift certificates, merchandise from local vendors and homemade
goods, as well as services like lawn cleanup provided by SUNY Plattsburgh students.
All proceeds will go toward the college's Alternative Break Program. Through this
program, SUNY Plattsburgh will sponsor 10 trips this year, sending more than 100 volunteers
to provide service to communities in need.
In addition to volunteering time and energy during college breaks, the students also
commit to paying for expenses like transportation, food and building supplies. The
auction is meant to help defray some of those expenses.
"Programs like this have proven to be both challenging and rewarding," said Michael
Cashman, student activities coordinator. "In most cases, students who have participated
in a program of this nature go on to further incorporate volunteerism and community
service into their everyday lives."
The auction will be called by Steve Brodi of Bridge Street Auction in Plattsburgh.
