Clarinet Students Unite for Workshop, Performance
PLATTSBURGH, NY (October 13, 2007) - Eight clarinet students and one faculty member from CEGEP de Sherbrooke, Quebec will visit the campus of SUNY Plattsburgh on Nov. 3 to participate in a one-day cultural exchange with members of the SUNY Plattsburgh Clarinet Choir and area high school clarinetists.
Hosted by the SUNY Plattsburgh music department, students will spend the day working together in combined rehearsals and a unique masterclass setting. Four clarinet students from the Plattsburgh area, including Plattsburgh State students and community members, will perform in the masterclass led by CEGEP de Sherbrooke faculty member, Nathalie De Grace, followed by a late afternoon reception.
The culminating activity of the day-long workshop will be a performance featuring chamber and solo repertoire played by the Canadian students. In addition, the CEGEP of Sherbrooke students and members of the SUNY Plattsburgh Clarinet Choir will combine for a Clarinet Choir en-masse performance of Irving Berlin's "Puttin' on the Ritz," conducted by Plattsburgh State Clarinet Instructor, Janine Scherline. The masterclass, rehearsals and performance are free and open to the public.
The day-long clarinet workshop is generously supported by the Department of Music and the Center for the Study of Canada at SUNY Plattsburgh. Plans are in the works for a reciprocal exchange by the SUNY Plattsburgh Clarinet Choir members and instructor to visit CEGEP de Sherbrooke in the Spring of 2008.
