Choral Ensembles to Perform in Fall Concert
Two choral ensembles from the SUNY Plattsburgh Department of Music will present an evening of choral works directed by Jo Ellen Miano 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11 in the E. Glenn Giltz Auditorium, Hawkins Hall. Admission is free.
The program will feature contemporary arrangements of 20th-century works, contrasted
with music composed during the Renaissance. College Chorale will perform “Rest, sweet
nymphs” by Renaissance composer Francis Pilkington and a 20th-century arrangement
of “The Turtle Dove,” an English folk song set by Ralph Vaughan Williams. Cardinal
Singers will perform “Have I Found Her?” written by English Renaissance composer John
Wilbye, followed by a jazzy arrangement of the well-known Beatles tune, “Honey Pie.”
The Cardinal Singers and College Chorale will join forces to sing the double chorus
piece “Ola, o che bon echo” (“Ho there, what a good echo!”). In this piece, the composer
Orlando di Lasso plays with the choral texture to simulate a conversation between
a speaker and its echo. To conclude the concert, the combined choir will perform a
contemporary arrangement of “Over the Rainbow.”
