Champlain Valley Voices and SUNY Plattsburgh Choral Union to Present “A Mozart Celebration” Concert May 14 and 15

Under the direction of Dr. Karen Becker, Champlain Valley Voices and the SUNY Plattsburgh Choral Union will present “A Mozart Celebration” concert at E. Glenn Giltz Auditorium, Hawkins Hall, Saturday, May 14, at 7:30 p.m. There will be a second performance 2 p.m. Sunday, May 15, at AuSable Valley Central School.

The program will feature Mozart’s famous motet, “Ave Verum Corpus,” “Piano Concerto K.488 in A Major,” “Eine kleine Nachtmusik” and the “Requiem Mass in D minor.”

Yana Groves, a piano student of Becker’s at SUNY Plattsburgh, will perform the “Piano Concerto.”  Vocal soloists Allison Devery, soprano; Tanner Knight, tenor; Jo Ellen Miano, alto; and Anthony Galloro, bass, will perform in the “Requiem Mass.”

The Manhattan Chamber Orchestra (New York) will provide accompaniment. At the Sunday afternoon performance, guests will include the AuSable Valley Central School Chorale.

The presentation at AuSable Valley Central School is the first for the chorus, but not for the director or the pianist.  Groves played in the school’s pit orchestra during the school’s recent production of “Bye-Bye Birdie,” and Becker has served for many years as conductor of the AuSable Valley Players musical productions.

“I’m excited to bring the chorus and this fine orchestra to AVCS so that they may enjoy our Mozart concert,” Becker said.

Tickets are $15 in advance and $17 at the door for general admission; $10 for seniors; and $5 for students. They may be purchased in Plattsburgh at Meyers Gifts, 10 Plattsburgh Plaza; The Corner-Stone Bookshop, 110 Margaret St.; and Baxter’s Bagels, 22 Brinkerhoff St. Tickets are also available at Arnolds Grocery, 182 Pleasant St., Keeseville; Feek Pharmacy, 2435 Route 9N, AuSable Forks, or from chorus members.
