CD Release Party for Late Rick Davies' Band, Thugtet, May 6
There will be a release party for the Latin-jazz-funk CD “Rick Davies Thugtet” Saturday, May 6 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, 56 Cumberland Ave., Plattsburgh.
The CD features eight original tunes by the late musician and SUNY Plattsburgh music professor, who died Dec. 4, 2015. Davies wrote the music specifically for Thugtet, a band he formed in 2012 that features musicians from the Plattsburgh community as well as SUNY Plattsburgh where he taught for 15 years.
The band began recording the CD three weeks before Davies succumbed to cancer. He had enlisted photographer Laura Carbone for the CD’s design; trumpeter and SUNY Plattsburgh adjunct music lecturer member Herm Matlock for the group’s performance; and Skip Smithson, adjunct music lecturer, for sound engineering. Together with Karen Hildebrand, adjunct theater lecturer and Davies’ wife, the project came to fruition.
General admission to the release party is $10. CDs will be on sale for $15. For more information, call 518-324-3232.
