Cardinals Sweep SUNYAC Softball Weekly Awards
Erin Florkiewicz and Ashley Marshall of the Plattsburgh State Softball team were named State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) player and pitcher of the week, respectively, for the week ending April 10.
Junior catcher Erin Florkiewicz helped lead the nationally ranked No. 15 Cardinals
to a 3-1 week against New Paltz and Oneonta. Florkiewicz hit .545 (6-for-11) in the
four game week. She homered in each end of a doubleheader against Oneonta and drove
in six runs on the week, including singling in what proved to be the game-winning
RBI in a 1-0 win over New Paltz on Thursday.
Ashley Marshall earns pitcher of the week honors after going 2-0 with a save in four
appearances for the Cardinals. The sophomore out of Malone, N.Y. allowed just one
earned run in 15 innings of work. She also registered 19 strikeouts while issuing
one walk.
In the opening game of a doubleheader against New Paltz, Marshall tossed a perfect
game, going five innings and striking out 10 batters – the sixth time this season
she’s struck out at least 10 batters. The two wins give her 29 in her career, pushing
her into fourth all-time in school history.
