Cardinal Points Named 'Best of Show'

Cardinal Points, SUNY Plattsburgh’s student-run newspaper, was named Best of Show by the Associated Collegiate Press.

The weekly paper was ranked first of five four-year, non-daily college newspapers, which included Tulane Hullabaloo from Tulane University, The Northern Light from University of Alaska Anchorage, the Gustavian Weekly from Gustavus Adolphus College and Northern Iowan from University of Northern Iowa.

This is the first time Cardinal Points has received this recognition.

Cardinal Points’ Adviser and Journalism Department Chair Shawn Murphy said the accolade is continued proof of SUNY Plattsburgh journalism students’ outstanding ability.

“I'm very proud of the student-journalists who collectively worked long and late hours to publish a collegiate newspaper that has been judged to be among the best in the country,” Murphy said.

The Best of Show was awarded during a national conference, held from July 21 to 24 this year at the National College Summer Journalism workshop in Minneapolis. Ranking is awarded based on the overall excellence among entries.
