Cardinal Hockey Picked Second in SUNYAC Preseason Poll
FREDONIA, N.Y. (Oct. 20, 2010) -- The SUNY Plattsburgh men's hockey team has been
predicted to finish second in the 2010-2011 State University of New York Athletic
Conference race, according to Wednesday's balloting by nine of the league's head
coaches. The Cardinals received 59 points, including three first-place votes, but
were edged by defending SUNYAC champion Oswego, which had 62 and six.
The other rankings had Geneseo as third with 46 points; Fredonia as fourth with 45 points; Potsdam as fifth with 37 points; Morrisville as sixth with 30 points; Brockport as seventh with 30 points; Cortland as eighth with 13 points; and Buffalo State as ninth with 12 points.
Plattsburgh, which has won two of the last three SUNYAC titles, made its third consecutive trip and NCAA-record 18th overall appearance in the national tournament last March, falling to eventual Division III champion Norwich by a one-goal margin in the semifinals.
The Cardinals finished 19-6-4 overall and 13-2-1 in conference play, and return 21 players off that squad that earned an NCAA-record 11th Frozen Four berth. 2010's All-SUNYAC performers senior left wing Dylan Clarke, senior center Eric Satim, sophomore goaltender Ryan Williams and junior defenseman Mike Kavanagh will help guide the Cardinals.
