Campus Pride Month Events Set for April
SUNY Plattsburgh will celebrate the LGBTQI community with three events during Campus Pride Month.
"As a member of the LGBTQI community, the recognition of Campus Pride Month and the support of the campus community makes me feel both supported and validated here at Plattsburgh,” said Nick Kelley, an event planning and Safe Space project assistant at the SUNY Plattsburgh Center for Student Involvement.
“It sends a message to our students, faculty and staff that you will be accepted and celebrated here, regardless of how you identify or your orientation.”
The first event, Party With Consent, is scheduled for April 5 at 7 p.m. in the Angell College Center Warren Ballrooms. The event will feature a presentation on gender equity and affirmative consent.
On April 19 at 8 p.m. in the Warren Ballrooms, comedian Julie Goldman, a self-described “Jewish lesbian,” will perform a stand-up comedy show with a question-and-answer session to follow.
A supervillain-themed Queer Student Union Drag Show will be held April 27 at 7 p.m. in the Warren Ballrooms.
The events are sponsored by Safe Space; Title IX; Hillel; Housing and Residence Life; Center for Diversity, Pluralism and Inclusion; the Office of the President; the Plattsburgh Alumni Association; Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity; Fraternity and Sorority Life; College Auxiliary Services; the Fitness Center; the Queer Student Union; Activities Coordination Board Coffeehouse, and the Student Association.
