'Boogie Woogie' Performance to Look at Obstacles to Dreams
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (April 26, 2010) -- The Multicultural Alliance is hosting "The Boogie
Woogie Rumble of Dream Deferred" on Tuesday, April 27 at 9 p.m. in the Angell College
Center Warren Ballrooms.
This innovative performance piece by Arts Integration Specialist Francine Jennings
challenges participants to identify and analyze images, concepts, and social elements
that might destroy their dreams. Langston Hughes' poem, "A Dream Deferred" serves
as the stimulus for this energetic piece, which strives to lead audiences to self-reflection
through song, spoken word, movement and visual stimuli.
Originally scheduled as a Black History Month event this February, the performance
was postponed because of weather-related travel problems.
The students in the Multicultural Alliance hope to engage the college campus and local
community in this unique and interactive event and are seeking help from faculty and
staff to encourage students and colleagues to attend. This performance is free and
open to the public.
