Autism Speaks to Benefit from Women's Soccer Color Walk/Run April 30
Women’s soccer at SUNY Plattsburgh is once again teaming up with the college’s chapter of Autism Speaks to host the second annual Color Walk/Run April 30.
The event begins that Saturday at 10 a.m. with registration. The walk/run begins at 11 a.m. at Memorial Hall Field.
“Last year we had a total of 200 participants; we are hoping to double that for this year,” said Tania Armellino, head women’s soccer coach and one of the event directors. “This year we also have created a simple scenic course for the walk/run and added a lot more color for our participants.”
Participants travel the course where they will be “doused” with a vegetable-based dye. The event raises funds for Autism Speaks research and care. A portion also goes to the women’s soccer program.
“The event is a great way to raise awareness for a great cause and allow for our women’s soccer program to get involved with that,” Armellino said.
T-shirts will be given to the first 100 who check in and register on the day of the event. Registration for the general public is $15; student registration is $5; faculty and staff can register for $10. Children 12 and under are free. Participants can register in advance at the Angell College Center desk.
