Author to Discuss History of Halloween
SUNY Plattsburgh’s Multicultural Alliance is hosting the presentation “Death Makes a Holiday” at 7 p.m., Oct. 13, in the Warren Ballrooms, Angell College Center.
In it, David Skal author of “Death Makes a Holiday: A Cultural History of Halloween” will discuss that holiday, looking at its dark Celtic history as well as the reasons why it evolved.
Skal has toured the United States interviewing people about the holiday and learning the extraordinary lengths that people go to in celebrating it. His book focuses on myths, horror films and haunted houses, striving to help us understand what these rituals say about people’s psyche.
