Athletic Director Resigns Position Effective End of Fall Semester
PLATTSBURGH, NY __ Roy Patton, director of athletics at the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh, will step down from his position effective the end of the fall semester and return to work for the Nordic Soccer Club in Essex, Vt. in an expanded role.
Patton has served as athletic director since the end of July. He said that personal issues led to his decision to tender his resignation.
"Despite my best intentions, my commute from South Burlington has forced me to realize that I simply cannot be everywhere that I need and want to be," said Patton.
"During my stay at Plattsburgh State, I have enjoyed and appreciated the support and kindness afforded me by a wonderful faculty, staff, alumni and a tremendous group of dedicated and hardworking coaches. I know that great times are ahead for Plattsburgh State as I have experienced firsthand, the up swelling of positive energy ushered in by the arrival of President John Ettling."
Patton said he leaves with many happy memories of his time at SUNY Plattsburgh and with many new friends.
President Ettling said he and SUNY Plattsburgh were disappointed to be losing Patton. "Roy is a terrific individual and an excellent athletic director. In the short time he has been here, he has had a positive impact on the institution, the Department of Sport and Wellness and our scholar athletes."
William Laundry, interim vice president for student affairs, said Patton has earned the respect of the coaches at SUNY Plattsburgh and his colleagues across campus.
"Roy has been a positive force in student affairs. From the first time we met him in the interview process for his current position, we believed he would serve SUNY Plattsburgh well. I understand his decision to resign and wish him the best in his future endeavors."
A search for someone to replace Patton on a permanent basis will begin in the spring semester. Laundry said he expected to name an interim director prior to the end of the fall semester in December.
