Applications for Community Service Scholarships Accepted Through April 18

community service scholarship volunteeringThe deadline for SUNY Plattsburgh’s one of four $2,500 Community Service Scholarships is fast approaching, and students who have a history of volunteerism are encouraged to apply.

Service-minded students have the opportunity to apply for the scholarships being offered through the Center for Student Involvement and administered through the Plattsburgh College Foundation, said Allison Swick-Duttine, director of fraternity and sorority life and Project HELP.

“We look for students who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to volunteerism over time,” she said. “It’s those students who have done hands-on service. And while participating in a fundraiser is important, it’s not part of the criteria we use to select scholarship recipients.”

Scholarship funds are applied to recipient’s fall bill, so they have to be returning for a minimum of the fall semester, Swick-Duttine said.

“The funds go directly through financial aid and accounts payable toward their bill,” she said. “For students here the entire academic year, it’s split 50/50 between the fall and spring semesters; students graduating in December have the funds applied to the fall semester bill.”

Students still have time. Deadline for applications is Monday, April 18. Applications are available at https://forms.gle/of1QxXBV2pPZ2FkB7. For more information, contact Swick-Duttine at 518-564-4825 or email [email protected].
