Alzheimer's Center Asks Public to Wear Purple Sept. 21
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Sept. 14, 2009) -- Every 70 seconds, someone in the United States develops Alzheimer's disease.
SUNY Plattsburgh's Alzheimer's Disease Assistance Center aims to raise awareness of the disorder and to support World Alzheimer's Day by encouraging members of the community and the campus to wear purple on Monday, Sept. 21.
On that same day, staff members are inviting the campus and community to visit the Alzheimer's Disease Assistance Center Office, Room 227, Sibley Hall, for free giveaways (while supplies last) and information about Alzheimer's Walk 2009.
The annual walk raises money to support local programs and services for people with
Alzheimer's and related disorders. It will take place at the Olympic Oval in Lake
Placid on Saturday, Oct. 24, and at SUNY Plattsburgh's Field House on Sunday, Oct.
25. Registration begins at 10 a.m. for the Lake Placid walk and noon for the Plattsburgh
walk.
For more information about World Alzheimer's Day or the Alzheimer's Walk 2009, contact Lee Vera at 518-564-3371 or visit the walk's Web site at www.alzwalk.org.
