Non-Credit Adult/Child/Infant CPR/AED & First Aid Courses


Successful completion of the course will certify participants in American Heart Association adult/child/infant CPR/AED. Any Community or SUNY Plattsburgh group that would like to arrange CPR/First Aid/AED training for their members, contact Karen Waterbury 

Enrollment and Registration Information

Who May Enroll?

Open to SUNY Plattsburgh students, faculty, staff and community members at a cost of $75.  You can take the class as separate components: CPR/AED for ($35) from 10am-12:45pm or First Aid component for($40) from 1pm-5pm.  The CPR lab is located in Memorial Hall in room 209.  

How to Register

  • Download Enrollment Form (PDF file size 365KB)
  • Bring enrollment form and registration fee in person to 312 Memorial Hall (main office).
  • Enrollments will be accepted Monday -Friday (8:30 a.m. - noon and 1 - 4 p.m.).
  • Checks must be made payable to SUNY Plattsburgh.

  • Enrollments will be accepted until class is full (16 students)

Who Needs CPR Certifications?

  • CDS graduate students are required to have Adult CPR before their clinic experience.
  • NYS requires all individuals coaching youth and school teams to have Adult CPR/AED.
  • EOP and Upward-bound summer counselors need Adult CPR/AED and First Aid.
  • Requirement for fitness and wellness leadership major.

Non-Credit CPR/First Aid/AED Instructor Course

This training opportunity is for SUNY Plattsburgh students who meet following qualifications and plan to work as instructors for the Recreational Sports CPR program as lab instructors and non-credit CPR course instructors. See Karen Waterbury for further information. 1-2 students are accepted each semester for training.

Prerequisites

Open to SUNY Plattsburgh students who

  1. Are freshman or sophomores.
  2. Have CPR/AED for Lifeguards or Professional Rescuers and First Aid certifications.
  3. Can pass pre-course CPR skill testing for all CPR skills.
  4. Are 17 years of age.

Red Cross CPR Certification Renewal


Available to SUNY Plattsburgh students, faculty and staff with current certification. Only available during Fall and Spring semesters.

American Red Cross CPR and First Aid cards are issued for 2 years. Even though certification will be for two years, lifeguards must renew every year. All others should check hiring agency for how often they will be requiring to renew their CPR/AED certification.

All students who need to renew their CPR should review the following material and skill sequences for appropriate CPR level before coming to lab for testing.

Renewal Procedures

Register at 312 Memorial Hall (Main office)

  • Show current CPR card at time of registration:
    • American Red Cross cards are issued for 2 years. Participants must renew within 2 years from date on card. 
    • Pay $35.00 course fee and get receipt.

CPR Lab Schedule and Procedures

  • Check CPR Lab schedule and procedures.
  • Sign-up for a lab on sign-up form posted outside 209 Memorial (CPR Lab).
  • Go to scheduled lab, give lab instructor the receipt and sign-in.
  • Use as many lab periods to practice and pass practical testing of appropriate CPR skills.
  • If renewing for Professional Rescue (vs Lay Person), participant must take written test within three days in 312 Memorial Hall (main office). Office hours 8 a.m. - noon and 1-4 p.m.
  • Certification is provided directly from American Red Cross via email.
