Summer English Program
Registration in this program is by invitation only. Invited students have been accepted for enrollment in a bachelor's degree program at SUNY Plattsburgh for the upcoming fall semester. Program Features
- Excellent teachers with degrees in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and related fields
- Program assistants who serve as tutors and conversation partners
- Cross-cultural instruction focused on adapting to university life
- Emphasis on building advanced-level academic writing and speaking ability
- Cultural, social and recreational activities
- Extra-curricular activities such as mini golf, bowling and movies
- Transportation for shopping and errands
- Modern computer lab
Classes
- English language skills: writing, reading, speaking and listening.
- Classes are designed for intermediate and advanced students with results on the Test
of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing
System (IELTS) as follows:
- TOEFL paper-based test: >= 450
- TOEFL internet-based test: >= 45
- Institutional TOEFL: >= 460
- IELTS: >=5.0
- Small classes allow a lot of interaction with teachers
- More than 20 hours of class time each week
- Emphasis on developing language and academic study skills
- Free tutoring with trained and experienced peer tutors
