“Deciding to study abroad at Keele University was one of the best decisions of my life. While being able to complete courses towards my mathematics degree, I was able to travel to several new countries in Europe and really catch the travel bug. The campus at Keele is similar in size to SUNY Plattsburgh, and has that at home atmosphere that you want when going abroad. When returning home my time abroad really impacted me and ultimately led me to a new career path, so really the experience changed my life forever. I will never forget the friendships I made and will continue those relationships throughout my life. If possible, take the chance to study abroad at Keele!” — Brooke Layhee, studied at Keele Fall ’15

“Studying abroad was unlike any experience I dreamed of having in college. It taught me so much more about myself and people from all over the world than any textbook, video or photo ever could, and that experience has changed me for the better. Studying journalism in another country, planning trips on my own and speaking with people from many different backgrounds helped me gain valuable skills that will benefit me in the working world upon graduation.” — Jessica Blondell, studied at Chester Spring ’15

University of East Anglia
- Eligibility Requirements
- Minimum GPA: 3.0
- Class standing: Sophomore, Junior, Senior
- Restrictions: Plattsburgh applicants only
- Program Information
“Before I graduated high school, before I even declared a major, I knew I wanted to study overseas. Even before my semester at the University of East Anglia in Norwich, England, I knew there was something inherently unique about living and studying in a different country. I wanted to experience a foreign environment, meet different people, and challenge myself in ways I would not have been able to otherwise.
“My number one destination was England because from a young age, I became fascinated with its media, culture, history, and way of life. I remember watching Gordon Ramsay with my dad as a child, learning about Henry VIII and his many wives in my Global History class, immersing myself in the world of Harry Potter in middle school, and tuning into BBC Radio 1 my junior and senior years of high school. I often encountered English culture growing up and I knew I had to see what the country was like for myself.
“After solidifying my decision to study in England, I started to explore the Global Education Office’s website. I chose the University of East Anglia because of its location, its academics, and its size. It was perfectly located for travel, and the campus and college city itself seemed welcoming. The academics and the program I was enrolling in were highly ranked. However, it was the size of the university that was the biggest factor. I knew I wanted to experience a bigger university, but not something too big. The University of East Anglia was the perfect fit.
“This semester overseas irrevocably changed my undergraduate experience. It presented unexpected obstacles that made me uncomfortable and allowed me to grow, it showed me a new way to approach my major, and it allowed me to explore and live a whole different life at such a young age. Most importantly however, this experience made me realize the raw importance of diversity in education and experience. The lessons I learned, both personally and academically, are something I’ll take with me for the rest of my college career and beyond.” — Ellen Miller, UEA participant, Spring ’18
