Project CONNECT is a hybrid aftercare program that provides the Plattsburgh City School District with aftercare (for grades K–5) and also serves as the program through which SUNY Plattsburgh teacher candidates earn their field experience hours for teaching certification. Project CONNECT operates at Bailey Avenue, Oak Street and Momot Elementary Schools. Project CONNECT is academically-based and offers curriculum enrichment daily through our collaboration with the SUNY teacher candidates and community programs.
The unique structure of Project CONNECT allows for the program to be staffed not only with qualified site directors and group teachers, but also with SUNY Plattsburgh teacher candidates. Teacher candidates plan and implement a wide variety of programming under the supervision of SUNY Plattsburgh faculty and site directors. Teacher candidates working independently with participating children complete background checks and fingerprinting required by Project CONNECT’s licensing agency, the New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS).
