Laura Holzer


Adjunct Lecturer

Laura attended Potsdam College, graduating with a B.A. in psychology. She completed her M.S. in counseling, attending SUNY Plattsburgh. Laura worked for not-for-profit agencies including: The Crisis Center, the YMCA, Lothlorien Girls Group Home and Behavioral Health Services North (formerly Northern New York Center). After 25 years working in agencies, she opened a private practice in mental health counseling, providing individual and couples counseling. Laura retired from her practice in April 2020. 

Laura Holzer began teaching in the counselor education department in 2006. She has taught counseling techniques, theories of counseling, substance abuse counseling, career development counseling and life span development. She brings her agency and clinical experience to the program. Working in education has been a wonderful opportunity and experience and she appreciates the opportunity to work with and learn from students.
