Charles “Skip” Smithson

Charles “Skip” Smithson has been a presence playing mandolin and guitar in the North Country since 1979. Playing professionally for over 35 years in various bands and as an accompanist for many notable regional musicians. Skip has played with festival award winning bluegrass bands, opened at the Strand Theater and Saranac Town Hall for national touring bands (George Thorogood, Roomful of Blues) playing guitar with Zip City Blues band. Skip has played for many years with Delta Blues artist Joan Crane and, together with Joan, has played at Cafe Lena and opened for bluegrass mandolin legend, Bill Monroe, both in Saratoga, NY. Skip continues to perform with Zip City Blues Band and recently with the talented, veteran composer/performer of Adirondack music, Roy Hurd. Skip’s mandolin playing graces many regional cd’s from various artists. He is also the owner and recording engineer of The Addition Studio.
