Thomas Montanaro

Adjunct Lecturer

Having earned my undergraduate and graduate degrees from SUNY Plattsburgh, I returned in the Spring 2012 semester to give back to the campus community as a teacher. As an undergraduate, I studied at La Sorbonne University. Before returning to SUNY Plattsburgh, I taught high school French in the U.S. as well as English as a foreign language in Spain and China. I have also worked in exchange programs: Youth Leadership Program with Francophone Africa at SUNY Plattsburgh and the Youth Ambassador Program with Canada.

Courses I have taught at SUNY Plattsburgh include public speaking for native and non-native speakers, linguistics and English grammar for native and non-native speakers. For several semesters, I taught a free, non-credit course in Chinese. I also have advised the Ski and Snowboard Club and Oratory Society. Outside SUNY Plattsburgh, I have taught ESL/ELL and public speaking courses at Clinton Community College. As an avid advocate for world language learning, I have extensively studied more than a dozen different languages. Lately, I am adding two more languages to my study list: Hebrew and Turkish.

I currently teach French and Spanish at Saranac High School, where I advise the Multicultural Club. In addition, I am the boys and girls varsity tennis coach for Saranac High School. Co-authors Nora and Ron Davis and I are finishing four books in our Density Diet Series: Discover the Davis Density Diet, Grooming Grammar Gurus, Word Wise and Strategically Stringing Sentences: The Art of Writing and Public Speaking. The series — an innovative color-coded, neuro-linguistic study of the English language and its grammar — is a revolutionary approach to writing and speaking clearly and concisely.

When I’m not working, I enjoy playing tennis and soccer, skiing, snowboarding, rock climbing and spending time in the Adirondacks with my dogs, Luna and Sol.
