Dr. Susan Mody

Susan Laird Mody has been a member of the department since 2009 and became Chair of Gender and Women’s Studies in December 2013. She teaches courses in global gender issues, gender and sexuality in India, gender and science, and gender in education. She received her doctorate in the Social, Philosophical and Historical Foundations of Education from Rutgers University in 2002 and her B.A. from Smith College in 1991. Her book Cultural Identity in Kindergarten (Routledge, 2005) is a comparative ethnographic study of young Asian Indian children in New Jersey that examines cultural identity construction at school and community sites. Her current research interests include transnational feminisms, feminist pedagogy, and gender issues in India. Dr. Mody designed the department’s 2014 study abroad program in Hyderabad, India, for Women’s Worlds Congress 2014.
