Donating Materials to Special Collections

Our Collections

Materials in Special Collections focus on the northern New York State counties of Clinton, Essex, and Franklin, and the Adirondack and Champlain Valley regions. We collect monographs, periodicals, pamphlets and other ephemera, audio and video materials, photographs, maps, and manuscripts.

Special Collections also houses and preserves the SUNY Plattsburgh College Archives.

The Gift Process

Special Collections is interested in receiving gifts of materials to be considered for addition to our collections. We are particularly interested in the following:

  • Any materials related to the North Country of New York
  • SUNY Plattsburgh faculty publications
  • Materials that document SUNY Plattsburgh’s history.

All persons interested in donating materials should contact the Special Collections librarian, Debra Kimok, at 518-564-5206 or [email protected] to discuss the nature of the gift.

Deed of Gift

A Deed of Gift will need to be completed and signed by the donor/s and the Special Collections librarian prior to arrival of the materials in Special Collections.

A Deed of Gift is a legal document that transfers ownership of donated materials from the donor/s to SUNY Plattsburgh Special Collections. Learn more by reading “A Guide to Deeds of Gift” from the Society of American Archivists.

Due to legal restrictions, Special Collections and Feinberg Library staff members are prohibited from providing appraisals of donated materials for IRS purposes. Donors should consult with a qualified appraiser if a monetary value needs to be determined.
