What is this all about?

As President Ettling says, this training will help us keep ourselves and our students safe and effective, and in compliance with various laws. These laws include:

  • Title IX (enforced by the US Department of Education)
  • Title VII (enforced by the US Department of Labor)
  • Right to Know (enforced by US OSHA)
  • Clery Act (enforced by US Department of Education)
  • Internal Control Act (NYS requirement)
  • Various NY State laws and SUNY policies

So, the training is useful to the college and its programs — and we must do it. This on-line program makes it easy for employees to complete the training without having to attend a formal training meeting. You won’t have to do all of these all at once! They’ll be phased in; see schedule below.

Why me?

All employees must receive training. Not all training modules are required for all employees, but some of the topics are required for all of us. You will have a very specific list of modules just for your position.

How long will this take?

Most modules will take between 10 and 25 minutes. Some supervisor modules may run a bit longer. These modules will be phased in over time; you don’t have to do them all at once.

Can I do this on work time?

Yes, of course. These trainings are a part of your work assignment. There will be a deadline date, but there will be plenty of time and leeway built in. If you start a module and are interrupted, no problem. You can come back to it later. You can schedule this work around your other duties.

What if I don’t have a computer at my work place?

No problem. For those employees who don’t have a computer at work, or for those who are less used to using computers, there will be group sessions in a computer lab with our training coordinator there to help you.

If I have had training on these same topics at my other job, can I get credit for that or do I still have to take this training?

Our modules are specific to SUNY Plattsburgh policies so you do need to take our training. And, we all need to have refreshers every now and again. It’s good training practice and it's the law in many cases.

What is “WeComply”?

This is a company that has put together various training programs in on-line modules. We didn’t have to reinvent the wheel here, though all modules are customized to SUNY Plattsburgh. Experts on our own campus have carefully reviewed the trainings.

How do I know which trainings I have to take?

After logging into WeComply, your course assignments will be listed on the home page under the Training tab. It will also list the courses you have already completed.
