Full-Time/Part-Time

Title: Project Aide – Direct Support Professional 

Position Summary:

The Third Age Adult Day Center and Traumatic Brain Injury Center Day Programs, through affiliation with the Research Foundation for SUNY Plattsburgh, have an immediate position opening for a full-time Direct Support Professional (DSP). The Day Programs also have openings for Direct Support Professionals on a part-time, temporary, and relief-staff basis. All part-time, temporary, and relief-staff positions may be eligible for full-time status should the need arise.

Applicants must have at least a high school diploma and no less than two years of experience providing direct support to individuals with intellectual, cognitive and/or physical disabilities. Applicants who can document completion of personal care aide training, a home health aide training program, or nurse aide training program approved by NYS Department of Health; or adult day care worker training program by Office for People With Developmental Disabilities will be highly regarded. Applicants must have experience with documentation of services and with implementing individual service plans. A valid drivers' license is highly preferred and applicants must be willing to consent to a criminal background check.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:

Include providing individually designed services to improve or maintain the participant’s skills and ability to live as independently as possible in the community.

Services may include assessment, training and supervision of, or assistance to, an individual with issues related to:

  • Self-care
  • Task completion
  • Communication skills
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Socialization
  • Sensory/motor skills
  • Mobility
  • Reduction/elimination of maladaptive behaviors
  • Community integration

Required Qualifications:

  1. High School Diploma
  2. Two-year’s experience providing direct support to individuals with intellectual, cognitive, and/or physical disabilities
  3. Experience with the documentation of services and with implementing individual service plans

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Personal care aide training, a home health aide training program, or nurse aide training program approved by NYS Department of Health;
  2. Or, adult day care worker training program by Office for People With Developmental Disabilities
  3. Valid Driver’s License
