Sub-Webs and Permissions

Sub-Webs Are No Longer Supported

With the arrival of the ANGEL course management system at Plattsburgh State, course-based sub-webs are no longer supported, and Instructional Technology no longer generates the course groups that were once used to populate course-web access lists.

Assigning permissions

Although you may assign author privileges to others, you are solely responsible for everything that is posted on your website, and you are responsible for ensuring that the policies governing the faculty web server are followed.

Please note that you must not alter the browse access permissions on your main web-site: the access for the root folder of your web-site must be unrestricted. Adding individuals with editorial permissions to the root of your website is permitted, though not encouraged: you are ultimately responsible for everything posted on your site, whether you put it up yourself or not.

To grant author permissions to others as well as yourself, select Tools|Security|Permissions from the menu to introduce the permissions dialog for your site. Your first step in assigning special permissions is to click on the Users tab at the top of the dialog window.

NOTE: Do not remove ...ADMINISTRATORS from the listing of authorized users. (It probably won't let you get away with it if you try...)

Click on the Add button to begin assigning new browse permissions. After you've clicked on the Add button, you'll see the Add Users  dialog. In the field marked "Obtain List From," select PSU . Once you've done so, you'll see, in the Names field, a listing of active accounts at Plattsburgh State. By selecting a username from that list, you can very provide a specialized level of access to that individual. Set the level of permission you would like that user to have and then click the OK button to dismiss the dialog.

At this point, a click on the OK button saves your changes.

Common questions

  1. How do I remove users whom I've given author permission for my web site?

To remove special permissions for a user, click on Tools|Security,  and in the Permissions dialog, under the Settings tab, select the user in question and click the Remove button.
