Fall 2008 Opening Week Information for New and Returning Students

On-Campus Parking:Due to campus construction projects this fall, the campus will lose 95 spaces in the parking lots located behind Champlain Valley and Banks Halls. In order to reduce inconveniece, some changes have been made. Read more.

Classes Begin Monday, August 25 at 8:00 a.m.

Beginning Saturday, August 23

Housing

Residence Halls open for new and returning students on Saturday, August 23 and Sunday, August 24 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day.

Report to the appropriate hall office to register, get combinations, etc. on Saturday and Sunday. Students who do not know their assignments or who plan to check in after Sunday should report to the Housing & Residence Life Office (Algonquin Room 103).

No-Shows forfeit room reservation on Tuesday, August 26 at 8 a.m.

A listing of off-campus housing is also available through the Housing & Residence Life Office.

The office is open Saturday, August 23 and Sunday, August 24 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The phone number is (518) 564-3824.

Admissions Office

The Admissions Office, located on the tenth floor of the Kehoe Administration Building, will be open Sunday, August 24 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

During these hours, newly admitted students to the Fall 2008 semester may stop in to discuss concerns related to their enrollment (e.g., transfer students whose credits have not been evaluated, questions about their academic major, or any student wishing to pick up information).

Drop/Add Courses

Drop/Add for all matriculated students via Banner Web will be Sunday, August 24 at 5:15 p.m. through Sunday, August 31 at midnight.

After August 31, a $20 late course add fee will be applied. In addition, there will be a $20 fee for each course withdrawal processed beginning the fourth week of the semester.

New Student Welcome and Matriculation Ceremony

Date: Sunday, August 24
Time: 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Location: Angell Center Ballroom

A student only event. Residence Hall staff members will lead new students to the Angell College Center Ballrooms for the official welcome and matriculation of our newest students.

Financial Aid

The Financial Aid Office, 406 Kehoe Administration Building, will be open Saturday, August 23 and Sunday, August 24 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Students participating in the Federal Work-Study Program were mailed an information packet in early August.

Log in to your Banner Web account and go under the "Employment Opportunities" Menu, then "Work-Study Position - Students" Menu to view requirements and all available jobs.

Students who have not yet adjusted their bills, accepted their charges, and/or paid their balance are encouraged to do so on Banner Web . Student Accounts staff can be reached in person on the first floor of Kehoe.

Student Employment (Career Development Center)

Students interested in part-time or temporary work (both on-campus and off-campus) can stop by the Career Development Center (Kehoe, 8th floor) to complete a registration form and review job openings.

The Part-Time Job Posting Fair will be held on Monday, August 25 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Angell Center Cardinal Lounge. Students who are not eligible for Work-Study but are seeking part-time jobs on campus or off campus should attend the fair to register for Student Employment and learn about current job openings (see Financial Aid section for Work-Study information). Come early to check out part time jobs that are available on campus and in the local community.

Students do not have to demonstrate financial need to be eligible for these services, although they may need to be matriculated in a degree program.

ID Card

Students who need to have their photo taken may do so the following days:

Cardinal Cash

Cardinal Cash deposits may be made weekdays throughout the school year at College Auxiliary Service, located in Clinton Dining Hall. from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Deposits are also accepted at the Angell Center Desk, the Student Accounts Office (financial aid transactions) or online at CardinalCard.com.

Meal Plan adjustments may be made at the College Auxiliary Services Office (Clinton Dining Hall) from Saturday, August 23 until close of business (4:30 p.m.) on Thursday, September 4.

Parking Permits

All student vehicles that park on campus, including motorcycles, must obtain a current parking permit.

If you have already processed your parking and registration fees on your bill, bring your vehicle registration to the University Police Department to obtain your permit.

Permits may be picked up any day including Saturday and Sunday, 24 hours a day. If you have removed the parking and registration fees from your bill, you will need to go to the Student Accounts Office, 1st floor Kehoe, if you wish to add this back and acquire a permit.

The Telecommunications Office is located on lower level of Saranac Hall, underneath the College Store.

The Telecommunications Office will not be open during Opening Weekend (Saturday, August 23rd or Sunday, August 24th). 

All on-campus students should have information regarding their voicemail and telephone service at check-in in their residence hall.
