A Message From President Ettling Following the Tragedy at Virginia Tech:

The SUNY Plattsburgh community deeply mourns for the victims at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of those who have been affected by this terrible tragedy.

As the SUNY Plattsburgh community reflects on the tragic events at Virginia Tech, our Dean of Students Steve Matthews has sent an email to the parents of many of our students regarding resources available to them on campus. I want to share with you some of that information.

Counseling Services

The staff of the SUNY Plattsburgh Center for Student Health and Psychological Services is available to meet with members of the community who are in need of counseling. The Center can be reached by phone at (518) 564-3086 and is located on the West End (closest to Macomb Hall) of the Student Health Center.

Residence Life

For students living on campus who have questions or concerns, please seek out your Resident Assistant or Residence Hall Director. Those individuals will help connect you to services and those who can help on the campus.

SUNY Plattsburgh Emergency Response Protocol

The emergency response procedures used by SUNY Plattsburgh vary with the context of the event or crisis. In the event of an emergency, students and staff will be notified through various means, including email, voicemail, SUNY Plattsburgh Homepage and the Residence Life staff.

Rest assured, we will continue to evaluate our response procedures incorporating new technologies where appropriate and taking into account the types of crises that have been encountered at other campuses. We welcome suggestions or concerns from anyone in the community.

If you ever feel unsafe, suspect suspicious behavior, or are uncomfortable with a situation, please call University Police at (518) 564-2022.
