What is Information Security?

Information security refers to policies and practices intended to protect information and information systems from unauthorized access, use, disclosure, disruption, modification, perusal, inspection, recording or destruction

What is cyber security?

It seems that everything relies on computers and the Internet now— communication (email, cellphones), entertainment (digital cable, mp3s), transportation (car engine systems, airplane navigation), shopping (online stores, credit cards), medicine (equipment, medical records), and the list goes on. How much of your daily life relies on computers? How much of your personal information is stored either on your own computer or on someone else's system? Cyber security involves protecting that information by preventing, detecting, and responding to attacks.

Key information for students

Protect your devices and information by following these five tech tips:

1. Secure your password - be sure to change it frequently and never share it.
2. Keep back-up files of all important information on your computer.
3. Never open e-mail messages or attachments from unsolicited sources. Doing so can expose your system to destructive viruses.
4. Never give out private information to unsolicited e-mails or telephone calls. In this way you'll protect yourself from fraud, hoaxes, and "phishing" scams.
5. Conserve resources - print only what you need. The planet will appreciate your support!
