MTS101 - Intro to ROTC & U.S. Army (1 cr.)

Discussion of the customs, traditions, branches, organization, as well as the many changes in the roles and mission of the Army of the 21st century. Includes a non-credit lab. (Fall). Corequisite: MTS103.

MTS102 - Intro to Military Skills & Followership (1 cr.)

Development of basic skills of an Army officer, including navigation, communication, and problem solving. Dimensions of leadership values, attributes, skills, and actions are explored. (Spring). Corequisite: MTS103. Prerequisite: MTS101.

MTS103 - Army Physical Fitness Training Lab I (0 cr.)

A vigorously conducted workout, at least three days a week, designed to build muscular strength/endurance, cardiovascular fitness and flexibility and improve body composition. Sessions will be conducted both outdoors and indoors depending on weather and training goals. The instruction/workout may be accomplished in one session or over a number of sessions. Sessions will be tailored to meet unit/individual needs. Development of an individual fitness plan will be the goal of all students. (Fall/Spring). Corequisites: MTS101 and MTS102.

MTS199 - Independent Study (1 to 15 cr.)

Project individually arranged by student and faculty sponsor. Requires completion of the Independent Study form and approval by the Faculty Sponsor, Academic Advisor, Department Chair and Academic Dean.

MTS201 - Leadership & Team Development (2 cr.)

Learning and application of ethics-based leadership skills that develop individual abilities and contribute to effective team building. Development of oral presentation, writing, and coordination of group efforts. (Fall). Corequisite: MTS203. Prerequisite: MTS102.

MTS202 - Individual and Team Development (2 cr.)

Techniques for training/counseling others as an aspect of continued leadership development. Includes risk and safety management assessments and planning for individual and team safety. (Spring). Corequisite: MTS203. Prerequisite: MTS201.

MTS203 - Army Physical Fitness Training Lab II (0 cr.)

A vigorously conducted workout, at least three days a week, designed to build muscular strength/endurance, cardiovascular fitness and flexibility and improve body composition. Sessions will be conducted both outdoors and indoors depending on weather and training goals. The instruction/workout may be accomplished in one session or over a number of sessions. Sessions will be tailored to meet unit/individual needs. The end state is that 2nd year students will be prepared to lead others in physical fitness activities. (Fall/Spring). Corequisites: MTS201 and MTS202.

MTS299 - Independent Study (1 to 4 cr.)

MTS301 - Leadership & Training in Small Organizations (3 cr.)

Series of opportunities to lead small groups, receive personal assessments, and lead in complex situations. Plan and conduct training to develop leadership skills. (Fall). Corequisite: MTS303. Prerequisite: MTS202.

MTS303 - Army Physical Fitness Training Lab III (0 cr.)

A vigorously conducted workout, at least three days a week, designed to build muscular strength/endurance, cardiovascular fitness and flexibility and improve body composition. Sessions will be conducted both outdoors and indoors depending on weather and training goals. The instruction/workout may be accomplished in one session or over a number of sessions. Sessions will be tailored to meet unit/individual needs. Students will plan, execute and lead training session at a progressively higher degree of difficulty throughout the semester. (Fall/Spring). Corequisites: MTS301 and MTS302. Prerequisite: MTS202.

MTS304 - Military History: United States Army 1607-Present (3 cr.)

The development of the U.S. Army from the colonial period to the present. Topics include battle analysis, innovations in military doctrine/technology, and leadership dimensions in battle. The course will also emphasize strategic, operational, and tactical synchronization throughout the nation's wars. (Fall, Spring, Winter).

MTS401 - Leadership Challenges & Goal Setting (3 cr.)

Plan, conduct, and evaluate activities. Assess organizational cohesion under stress and develop strategies for improvement. Develop confidence in skills to lead people and manage resources. (Fall). Corequisite: MTS403. Prerequisite: MTS302

MTS402 - Leadership in a Complex World (3 cr.)

Exploration of the dynamics of leading in the complex situations of current military operations in the contemporary operating environment. Examination of differences in customs and courtesies, military law, principles of war, and rules of engagement in the face of international terrorism. Exploration of aspects of interacting with non-government organizations, civilians on the battlefield, and host nation support. (Spring). Corequisite: MTS403. Prerequisite: MTS401

MTS403 - Army Physical Fitness Training Lab 4 (0 cr.)

A vigorously conducted workout, at least three days a week, designed to build muscular strength/endurance, cardiovascular fitness and flexibility and improve body composition. Sessions will be conducted both outdoors and indoors depending on weather and training goals. The instruction/workout may be accomplished in one session or over a number of sessions. Sessions will be tailored to meet unit/individual needs. 4th year students will be able to formulate and manage a fitness program to meet the diverse needs of company level organization of soldiers. (Fall/Spring). Corequisites: MTS401 and MTS402. Prerequisite: MTS302.
