Upward Bound Program at SUNY Plattsburgh

Helping High School Students Prepare for Success In College and Beyond

From the first residential experience in 1966 to the present, nearly 1,500 area high school students have successfully completed the program,.

More than 80 percent of Upward Bound grads have pursued postsecondary education immediately after high school graduation and more than 50 percent of those have completed their postsecondary programs.

 

Plattsburgh Upward Bound alumni graduate from college at double the rate of other low-income students and at higher rates than all U.S. adults.

94% of our UB Plattsburgh alumni attend four-year institutions, compared to 23% of other low-income students in the U.S.

Each year Upward Bound participants:

  • Visit 30-35 colleges in the Northeast
  • Explore career options through career internships, job shadowing, the Upward Bound Career Fair, career field trips
  • Provide over 6,000 hours community outreach
  • Engage in unique leadership experiences such as:
    • Ocean Classroom Sailing
    • Adirondack Wilderness Experience
    • New England Leadership Conference
    • National TriO Day
    • NYS Leadership and Governance
    • National Leadership Congress

Plattsburgh Upward Bound has been continuously funded since 1966 and is one of the oldest Upward Bounds in the U.S. and our long-term data show that Upward Bound Works!:
